Client Installation Instructions for Windows

Install the base 10.2.0.1 client

  1. Unzip the contents of  the 10201_client_win32.zip or 102010_win64_x64_client.zip file.
  2. from the directory contents were extracted in, issue the following command:

cd client

setup.exe

  1. The Oracle Universal Installer will open with a “Welcome” screen.  Click on the “Next” push button.
  2. You will then see the “Select Installation Type” screen.  Click on the “Runtime” radio button and click on the “Next” push button.
  3. You will then see the “Specify Home Details” screen.  Do not change the contents of the either of these fields (Name or Path).  Accept the defaults by clicking on the “Next” push button.
  4. The installer will begin a few prerequisite checks.  This should be quick.  Once it is done, click on the “Next” push button.
  5. You will then see a “Summary” screen.  Click on the “Install” push button.
  6. You will be able to watch the progress of the installation.  Once complete, it will launch the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant.  You can click on the “Cancel” push button and then click “Yes” to confirm that you want to cancel.  We do not need to run this step as it is the piece that configures the connect details and will vary by user. 
  7. You will get an “Error” window.  This is expected.  Click on the “OK” push button.
  8. Back on the “Configuration Assistants” screen, click the “Next” push button.  You will see a “Warning” window.  Just click “OK” to continue.
  9. You should then see the “End of Installation” window.  Click on the “Exit” push button. Confirm the Exit by click on “Yes”.

Install any additional components (ODBC, XML, etc.)

  1. From the directory where the 10201_client_win32.zip or 102010_win64_x64_client.zip contents were extracted in number 1 (Install the Base 10.2.0.1 Client above), issue the following command:

cd client

setup.exe

  1. The Oracle Universal Installer will open with a “Welcome” screen.  Click on the “Next” push button.
  2. You will then see the “Select Installation Type” screen.  Click on the “Custom” radio button and click on the “Next” push button.
  3. You will then see the “Specify Home Details” screen.  Click on the arrow next to the Name field and make sure that “OraClient10g_home1” is selected.  This will set the Path: to “c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1.   Click on the “Next” push button.
  4. You will then see a screen called “Available Product Components”.  Click in the box next to each additional option to be installed.  For example, if installing the ODBC drivers, click on the box next to “Oracle Windows Interfaces 10.2.0.1.0”.  Unclick any option that is not needed (ex. “Oracle Services For Microsoft Transaction Server 10.2.0.1.0”).  Then click on the “Next” push button.
  5. The installer will begin a few prerequisite checks.  This should be quick.  Once it is done, click on the “Next” push button.
  6. You will then see a “Summary” screen.  Click on the “Install” push button.
  7. You will be able to watch the progress of the installation. 
  8. You should then see the “End of Installation” window.  Click on the “Exit” push button. Confirm the Exit by click on “Yes”.
